Technical information about the mobile solution for ProMark
How is the mobile solution used?
The employees simply need an Internet connection and a mobile device, whether it is a mobile phone, PDA or a laptop. Launching ProMark on a mobile device will show a user interface with the accessible functionality and a look-and-feel adapted to a mobile device.
The travelling employees will offload data from the main ProMark installation to an external device (PDA, mobile phone or similar) and take the data with him to the place of work. The user will then work with a subset of data taken from the ProMark installation. When he connects to the server again he will be able to synchronise the entered data and receive a new subset of updated data to his device. This enables the users to work on- or offline, no matter if the user is in the office or at a distant location, adding a high degree of flexibility and freedom.
Architecture
The architectural setup will consist of a 3 layer solution with:
- Application layer i.e. client and interface to ProMark,
- Device Management, security settings and synchronisation
- Means of connectivity (GPRS, 3G, internet or other)
An example of a set-up is illustrated below where Vodafone provides the connectivity to the Internet and the PDA can get access to a TCP/IP address, i.e. access to the internet.
The mobile devices could be mobile phones, laptop computers or Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) etc. Only requirement is access to the Internet.
The Business Application Server (BAS) is the link between your ProMark solution and the mobile devices, handling integration management, client management, communication management, design and development, file synchronization, software deployment, security and audit logging.
