Aberdeen Group: How to become "Best in Class" with Lean?
Aberdeen Group has recently published the Lean Scheduling and Execution report based on survey responses of over 400 manufacturing enterprises from around the world
Survey Objectives
The objective was to measure benefits and find the top 20% 'Best in Class' implementers of Lean. The most important metrics used to measure benefits were:

Survey Findings
Among the survey findings the following has been found.
- Old ideas of IT-free implementation of Lean using Kanban systems only, is being replaced by a focus on specific KPIs such as cost reduction
- Best in Class manufacturers are twice as likely to be addressing the pressure to reduce costs by adopting Lean scheduling software applications and integrating them with ERP
- This provides supply chain visibility – a tool for empowerment of lean decision makers
Requirements
To achieve Best in Class status include:
- Measure Throughput and Manufacturing Cycle Time at least daily
- Measure On Time Delivery, WIP, and Scrap in real-time.
